sql server - MS SQL text type field in a trigger -

in project forced use columns text type in ms sql (version 2008), due datalink obscure gis-system. forced use triggers convert value in text column geometry type value in column.(for geographical indexing , search)

i know text type not allowed in trigger, trying find workaround. mentioned above it's not option change column type nvarchar(max).

i have tried convert(), not allowed use select stement inside function. , can't use select directly because of text type.

any suggestions?
